Students pursuing the MS degree in Economics and Data Science (MSEDS) will acquire advanced analytical, computational, and data analysis skills rooted in modern economic theory, modeling, statistical methods, and computer science. The students will learn how to apply these skills in practice using advanced econometric methods and programming techniques, including data base management, cloud computing, and big data analysis. The program prepares students for a career at the intersection of Economics and Data Science such as Market Researcher or Financial Analyst, or for a PhD program. The students will be able to specialize in particular areas of economics (e.g., financial econometrics) and data science (e.g., machine learning or artificial intelligence). This is a residential program on the Bloomington campus. Its completion will typically require three semesters of study.
